That is all the calculator needs. It takes about a minute.
We buy three kinds of Windows laptop, and each is priced on something different. Business laptops, which means Lenovo ThinkPad, HP EliteBook and Dell Latitude, are priced on the processor family and generation. Gaming laptops are priced on the brand line and the NVIDIA graphics card. Everyday consumer laptops, from IdeaPad and Pavilion to Zenbook and Surface Laptop, are bought from Intel 10th gen or Core Ultra upwards.
Across all three we buy working laptops only, in Excellent or Good condition. That is the plain answer if yours has a cracked screen or will not start: we cannot buy it. MacBooks are the only laptops we buy faulty, and the broken laptop page has more on what to do with a Windows machine that has stopped working.
Finding out what yours has inside takes a minute. Settings, System, About shows the processor, and the number after the dash gives you the generation: an i5-1135G7 is 11th gen, an i7-10510U is 10th gen. Task Manager's Performance tab names the graphics card. If yours runs an AMD Ryzen processor, the calculator will tell you whether we buy it, and you can WhatsApp us if you are unsure.
Which kind is yours?
Every working Windows laptop we buy is one of these. Find yours and go to its page.

What affects your offer.
On a business laptop, the generation
A 12th gen ThinkPad and an 8th gen ThinkPad look almost identical and are worlds apart in value. The generation matters more than the model letter, which surprises most people selling one.
On a gaming laptop, the card
The RTX tier sets the bracket before anything else. Check it in Task Manager rather than going on memory.
On an everyday laptop, the 10th gen line
We buy consumer laptops from Intel 10th gen or Core Ultra upwards. Below that we decline, and the old laptop page explains the exceptions honestly.
On all of them, working order
Excellent or Good, powering on, screen intact, keyboard working. Wear is fine. A fault takes a Windows laptop off the table, which is why it is worth checking yours properly before you start.
Wear and tear we are happy with.
We only buy working Windows laptops, in Excellent or Good condition. If yours boots, has an intact screen and a working keyboard, the wear below is part of the grade and not a reason to say no.
- Scuffs and scratches on the lid
- Shiny keys from years of typing
- A battery with noticeable wear, as long as it is not swollen
- Company asset tags or engraving
- Sticker residue
- Missing original box
- A small dent on a corner
Upgrading? Put it towards the new one.
Most people move to a newer laptop from EpicDeals.co.za. If the Windows laptop is being replaced, taking the payout as credit puts more of it towards the next one.
Take the payout as EpicDeals.co.za credit and we add 12%. Only worth it if you were going to spend it there anyway. If you need the cash, take the cash.
