Is a Zephyrus worth less than a Strix with the same card?

They are priced separately, so the calculator will show you. The Zephyrus is slimmer and usually gives its card less power, the Strix is heavier and runs it harder, and the second-hand market treats them as different machines.

My Zephyrus has an AniMe Matrix lid display that has stopped working. Do you still buy it?

Should I reset Windows before sending it?

Yes. Back up what you want, sign out of your Microsoft account, then reset with the option to remove everything. We wipe every laptop before resale anyway, but your data should never leave your house on a machine you have not cleared yourself.

ROG is the part of ASUS's range built without much compromise, and it splits into two very different machines. The Strix is the thick, loud, powerful one, built to sit on a desk and run its card at full wattage. The Zephyrus is the slim one, built to be carried, with the same card names in a body that has to be more careful with heat.

Both hold their value well because buyers trust the badge, and both are priced mainly on the card. A Strix G16 or Zephyrus G16 with an RTX 5070 Ti is at the very top of what we buy. An RTX 4060 in either is the most common one we see, and still a long way above a budget machine with the same card.

The card, then Strix or Zephyrus

The RTX tier sets the level. Within a tier, the calculator asks which ROG it is, because a 16-inch Strix and a slim Zephyrus with the same card are bought by different people for different reasons.

The panel on a Zephyrus

The Zephyrus is sold partly on its display, with a high refresh rate and a sharp panel. Bright spots, scratches or pressure marks on a panel like that matter more here than on a budget laptop, because it is a large part of what the buyer is paying for.

Strix thermals

A Strix runs its card hard, and after a couple of years of dust it gets hot and loud. A clean fan and fresh paste will not change the card, but a Strix that games without screaming grades better than one that does not.

The original charger

High-end ROGs ship with a large, model-specific power brick, and running one on a smaller USB-C charger holds the card back. Send the original so we can test it at full power.

Wear and tear we are happy with.

We only buy working gaming laptops, in Excellent or Good condition. A ROG that will not boot, has a cracked or flickering screen, or crashes and shows artefacts under load is one we cannot take. Ordinary wear from being played on is a different thing, and none of the below rules yours out.
