Huawei sold a lot of MateBooks in South Africa, particularly the MateBook D 14 and D 15, which offered an aluminium body at a mid-range price. They have aged well, with good screens and solid keyboards, and a second-hand buyer gets a lot of laptop for the money. That keeps demand steady.

Generation and chip
As with any Windows laptop we buy, the processor generation is the largest single factor. Read it rather than going by the year you bought it.
Range: D series, 14 or X Pro
The X Pro is Huawei's premium model with a high-resolution touch screen, and it prices above the D series. Choose the right range in the calculator.
The fingerprint power button
Most MateBooks have a fingerprint reader built into the power button. It should still read. If it does not, mention it before you price it.
The pop-up camera on older models
Some older MateBook D and X Pro models hid the webcam in a pop-up key in the keyboard. It should still pop up and work. A stuck camera key counts as a fault.
Wear and tear we are happy with.
We only buy working Windows laptops. If your MateBook is 10th gen or newer and the screen, keyboard, camera, fingerprint reader and ports all work, this wear just sets the grade.
