That is all the calculator needs. It takes about a minute.
We buy HP Pavilions with Intel 10th gen and newer, and we decline older ones. That is the first thing to check, and it takes a minute: Settings, System, About, then read the processor. i5-1035G1 is 10th gen, which we buy. i5-8265U is 8th gen, which we do not.
The Pavilion is one of the most common laptops in South African homes, and that cuts both ways. There are a lot of them on the second-hand market, so condition and specification are what make yours the one a buyer chooses. A 12th gen Pavilion 15 with 16GB of memory and a clean lid will price well. The same laptop with 4GB and a tired battery prices lower, but still sells.
Many Pavilions run AMD Ryzen chips, and the Pavilion Aero is AMD only. For a Ryzen model, the calculator will tell you whether we can price it, and you can WhatsApp us if you are unsure. Whatever the chip, we only buy working Pavilions.

What affects your offer.
Generation and Core i5 or i7
Two Pavilion 15s can look identical and be three processor generations apart. The generation and whether it is an i3, i5 or i7 matter most to the price.
Memory
Pavilions often shipped with 8GB, and some with 4GB. A buyer today wants 8GB at least and prefers 16GB, so memory moves a Pavilion's price more than it does on a premium laptop.
Drive type and size
A fast SSD of 512GB is what a buyer expects. A Pavilion with a small drive, or an old hard drive paired with a small SSD, is less attractive, and the calculator asks.
Battery and charger
Pavilion batteries wear quickly with daily use. If yours only lasts an hour or two, it is still a sale, just at Good rather than Excellent. Include the HP charger if you still have it.
Wear and tear we are happy with.
We only buy working Windows laptops. If your Pavilion is 10th gen or newer, boots without trouble and has a working screen, keyboard and ports, this everyday wear is priced in.
- Scuffed or scratched lid
- Faded or shiny keys
- A battery that drains in a couple of hours
- A worn finish on the palm rest
- Missing charger
- Old stickers or sticker residue
- No box
We buy Windows laptops working, in Excellent or Good condition. A cracked screen or a laptop that will not start is something we cannot buy for now. What we can do with a broken one.
Upgrading? Put it towards the new one.
Most people move to an HP Envy or a newer Pavilion Plus. Pavilion owners who want a metal body and a better screen usually step up to an Envy, and a working Pavilion covers part of that gap.
