The honest answer up front. We buy MacBooks in any state, including cracked screens, liquid damage and machines that will not turn on at all. We buy Windows laptops, whether business, gaming or everyday, working only, in Excellent or Good condition. A broken Windows laptop is one we cannot buy.
The reason is resale. A broken Apple silicon MacBook still has parts and a logic board that are worth something, and the repair market for them is well established. A broken Windows laptop is a different repair for every model, and there is too little left after the repair for us to make you a fair offer. We would rather say so now than after a courier has collected it.
If yours is a Windows laptop, there are better options than the drawer. A cracked screen on a ThinkPad, EliteBook or Latitude is often a modest repair with standard parts, and a repaired laptop in Good condition is one we will buy. If the repair costs more than it is worth, take the drive out or wipe it, and recycle the rest with an e-waste recycler who will take it responsibly.

On a broken MacBook, the chip and spec
Once it is in the faulty grade, the chip, memory and storage make up most of the offer. A broken MacBook Pro 14 with an M3 Pro is still worth a good deal more than a broken MacBook Air M1.
Removing it from Find My
Even a dead MacBook can be removed from your Apple ID in the Find My app or at icloud.com/find. Do it before collection, because we cannot test or pay for a MacBook still on somebody's account.
On a Windows laptop, a repair quote first
A screen, keyboard or battery on a business laptop is often a standard part an independent repairer can fit. If the quote is sensible, repair it and sell it to us working. Gaming laptop screens are more specialised, so get the quote before deciding.
Recycling what cannot be saved
If the repair does not make sense, remove or wipe the drive and take the laptop to a proper e-waste recycler. Batteries in particular should never go in household rubbish.

This list is for MacBooks only. Each of these puts it in the heavily used or faulty grade, and none of them ends the sale. On a Windows laptop, any of these means we cannot buy it.
- Cracked or shattered display
- Lines, dead pixels or a dark patch across the screen
- Liquid damage, including the coffee that finished it off
- Will not turn on, will not charge, or shows nothing at all
- Battery showing Service Recommended
- Keys that stick, double type or have stopped responding
- Trackpad that no longer clicks
- Dented corners or a bent lid from a drop

Most people move to a working MacBook Air. A broken MacBook is still worth something towards its replacement, and the credit route makes that something bigger.
