That is all the calculator needs. It takes about a minute.
A MacBook Pro is usually bought for a job: editing, development, design, music. That makes its second-hand value unusually specific. A buyer looking for an M1 Max with 32GB is not interested in an M2 with 8GB, even though the second one is newer. The calculator prices each chip tier and memory size separately for exactly that reason, and it is why the configuration matters more on a Pro than on any other laptop we buy.
We buy Apple silicon only, from the 13-inch M1 of 2020 up to the current M5 machines, and we buy them in any state. A cracked mini-LED screen, a board that will not boot and a keyboard that met a cup of coffee are all priced in the calculator. MacBooks are the one category on this site we buy faulty.
Plenty of Pro owners selling to us are leaving the Mac entirely, often for a Windows workstation or a gaming laptop with a dedicated graphics card. Others are moving from a Pro to an Air because the work changed. If you also have a desktop Mac to sell, SellYourMac.co.za is the same company and prices iMacs, Mac minis and Mac Studios.

What affects your offer.
Pro or Max, more than the generation
The chip tier often matters more than the year. A Max chip with its extra graphics cores is what video editors and 3D artists hunt for, and an older Max can be worth more than a newer base chip. Check the exact chip in About This Mac before you start.
Memory, because it cannot be upgraded
Unified memory is part of the chip and fixed for life, so buyers pay for it up front. 32GB and above is where the professional buyers sit, and 8GB on a 13-inch M1 or M2 is the configuration they skip.
Storage at the high end
1TB and 2TB configurations are common on 14 and 16-inch Pros and priced accordingly. The very large drives add value too, though less in proportion to what they cost new.
Screen and battery together
The 14 and 16-inch Pros use a mini-LED panel that is expensive to replace, so a flawless screen counts for a lot. Battery cycle count matters on any Pro that spent its life unplugged on location shoots.
We still buy it with these.
Choose the closest condition in the calculator and mention anything that is wrong. Your offer already takes it into account.
- Cracked or bruised mini-LED screen
- Will not turn on, or stuck on the Apple logo
- Liquid damage, visible or suspected
- Failed keys, or a Touch Bar that has gone blank on a 13-inch
- Display backlight faults, lines or flickering
- HDMI port, SD slot or a Thunderbolt port that no longer works
- Battery at Service Recommended, or swollen and lifting the trackpad
- Dents, scratches or a chipped corner on the aluminium
Upgrading? Put it towards the new one.
Most people move to a current MacBook Pro 14 or 16. A Pro with a Max chip and plenty of memory holds its value well enough that the step to the current generation costs less than most owners expect.
