That is all the calculator needs. It takes about a minute.
The MacBook Air is the laptop most South Africans picture when they say MacBook, and the Apple silicon versions have held their value better than any Windows ultrabook from the same years. An M1 Air from 2020 is still a fast, quiet, all-day machine, and a second-hand buyer knows it. That is why we price every Air from the M1 onward, and why we price them working or not.
We only buy Apple silicon. If your Air has an Intel chip, it will not appear in the calculator, and we would rather say that here than let you find out halfway through. Apple menu, About This Mac, will tell you in one line which chip you have.
A lot of the people selling an Air are not upgrading to another one. Some are moving to Windows for work software, some are moving up to a MacBook Pro, and some have simply ended up with a Mac and a work laptop and only use one. Whichever way you are going, the process is the same: price it, we collect it free, we test it, and you are paid within 5 working days of your offer being confirmed.

In any condition, from boxed and spotless to cracked or not switching on. Not sure which one you have? The model is under Apple menu, About This Mac.

What affects your offer.
The chip comes first
Each generation of Air is priced on its own line. The M2 brought the new body, MagSafe and a brighter screen, and buyers notice the difference. Pick the exact chip rather than guessing from the year you bought it.
Memory, especially on M1 and M2
The early Airs shipped with 8GB as standard, and second-hand buyers now look specifically for 16GB. If yours has 16GB or 24GB, say so, because it widens who will buy it next.
Storage after that
256GB is the common configuration and is priced as the baseline. 512GB and above add real value on the same chip, and on a 15-inch Air the larger storage options are what the buyers of that model tend to want.
Battery cycle count
An Air that has lived on battery for four years can have run up several hundred cycles, and a high count is where buyers start budgeting for a replacement. A low count on an older Air is worth having on your side. Check it before you price it so your offer does not change after testing.
We still buy it with these.
Choose the closest condition in the calculator and mention anything that is wrong. Your offer already takes it into account.
- Cracked screen, or a crack hidden under the bezel that only shows when it is on
- Will not turn on, or will not charge on either port
- Liquid damage, including sticky keys after a spill
- Keys that have stopped working, or a trackpad that no longer clicks
- Lines, stripes or a dark patch on the display
- A battery reporting Service Recommended
- A dented corner or a bent lid from a drop
- Missing charger or no box
Upgrading? Put it towards the new one.
Most people move to a MacBook Pro 14, or a newer Air. Air owners usually move up for more memory or a better screen, and an M-series Air still covers a good share of the price of the next one.
